Matt & I are back from our trip to Duluth, MN. We were very busy! Duluth is a harbor town of Lake Superior. The whole town is built on a steep hillside and the population is over 87,000 people. We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel downtown Duluth. The streets are still brick and the Fond Du Luth Casino was 1 block away from our hotel. We tried to go to all the tourist attractions. We went to Pickwick Restaurant on our first night in town. It is a historical restaurant located next to Fitgers Hotel/shopping complex/restaurant/microbrewery. There are only 8 hotels that are rated as 4 star hotels in MN and Fitgers is one of them. 
Anyway, on our 2nd day we went to the Duluth Zoo and took a Vista boat cruise on Lake Superior. The boat tour was extremely informative and relaxing at the same time. We also went to the Omnimax theater to catch a movie that night.
On Saturday (3rd day) Matt's sister, Melody took us to Enger Tower. It was a long climb up to the top of the tower, but we all made it. The view was incredible. You could see the entire city. Another tourist destination that she took us to was the Rose Gardens. They were so beautiful! I couldn't smell the roses enough. We also toured Glenshee Mansion. It has 39 rooms and quite a history. There was a murder that took place there, but the staff isn't allowed to speak of it.
On Sunday (4th day) we toured Canal Park. It is the lakeside neighborhood that houses the aerial bridge, shops, restaurants, the aquarium and spectacular views of Lake Superior. We drove through an area known to the locals as the point. It is a land mass approx. 2 miles in length that is attached to Canal Park via the aerial bridge. Prime real estate! We also toured 2 ships. The first was the William Irving, a ship that carried iron ore and grain. It was "retired" because it couldn't keep up with the capacity of larger, more modern ships. The 2nd ship was a decommissioned (2004) coast guard vessel. It was in use for 60 years before a more modern ship took over its post. After the guided tours of the ships, we walked all over Canal Park going through shops and stopping for some eats at local restaurants. When it was time to think about heading to the hotel our legs were hurting so we took a horse drawn carriage ride back to the parking lot where we had parked.
On Monday we headed back to Detroit Lakes, but stopped at Black Bear Casino on the trip home. We had good weather and now we have seen the highlights of another city.
